This article features modernizing the education, using the nowadays technologies, that is, creating a school class of engineering innovation (SCEI). Robbo company manufactures appropriate equipment for SCEI. SCEI is based on free software and hardware. “Free” means that all components of the equipment used are shipped with open source software, with open circuitry, component lists, and manufacturing instructions. To maximize the effectiveness of training, each student is provided with their own set of equipment. SCEI activity involves additive technologies, robotics, Internet of Things, 3D modeling and 3D prototyping, software for video and audio editing, computerized graphics, etc.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The software is an important component of SCEI equipment. We use free software based on the GNU/Linux operating system. This software allows to solve three main tasks:&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
* educational part of educational process management; &lt;br /&gt;
* tech creativity for students;  &lt;br /&gt;
* competitive programming.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The majority of the world programming olympiads for children are run under the operating system GNU/Linux, therefore, to be among the winners, it is important to learn how to use this operating system.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

The next important point, apart from software, is the methodological support. The picture shows Robbo’s formula for free educational robotics — this is the formula 3×4×5×6, and its explanation is as follows.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
3 means the three levels of education that we offer: pre-school, school, and professional;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
4 means four freedoms of open robotics: freedom to use these products; freedom to study the working principles of products and to modify the products; freedom to make copies of our products and to distribute them; freedom to improve products, to create new products on their basis, and to publish improvements for public access to stimulate technological progress.&lt;br /&gt;

Further about the formula: 5 means five used educational technologies — these are gamification, project technology, differentiated training, activity approach, and productive training. Gamification is primarily important at the pre-school level: methods for studying the basic concepts in a ludic form have been developed. Older children start with creative programming, developing their own computer games. The project activity is the creation of mini-projects, then intermediate projects, and then a graduation project. Differentiated learning takes into account that different students have different levels of understanding and different background, that’s why the tasks of different levels of complexity have been developed, so that each student can be given a task that promotes them to the next level. The activity approach assumes active involvement of students in the tasks being discussed. Productive learning means that each lesson results in a mini-project.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The hardware components we use are Arduino-based kits for teaching microelectronics and circuitry, 3D prototyping center — an interesting solution for the SCEI, three-in-one, it is a two-head 3D printer where the heads can be replaced by a laser or a milling cutter. In fact, it is a mini-Fablab that introduces all the popular ways of processing materials, and additive production — add what you need and cut off what you need not, laser engraving and milling. There are 3D printers, specially designed for schools, Robbo mini that can be supplied as DIY kits. They can be used to teach 3D printing. Digital laboratory for mastering the Internet of Things — this is actually a web server on batteries; with it, you can go anywhere in the world, for example, in a botanical garden or in a forest, sensors are inserted in it, to perform the measurements, it runs a website that allows to get access from anywhere in the world to this little box and perform laboratory work related to measurements from these sensors. There is also a mobile robot that allows you to learn the basics of working with actors and the basics of mobile robotics. This is a digital laboratory that allows you to learn the basics of microcontroller’s interaction with sensors, and to introduce such concepts as “smart home”, “Internet of Things”.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Thus, the above-described equipment for the SCEI is necessary to train the future experts — innovation engineers for flagship companies that are going to hit the markets of the future.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The second stage is the longest, it can take 2/ 3/ 4 years, depending on the readiness and motivation of the student. Programming at this stage uses the blocks, is performed through RobboScratch, and concerns real robots. Projects are created on Scratch, the sensors and robot are worked with, olympiad problems are being solved. The students make acquaintance with the concept of “smart home”, create their own virtual smart home, and control it using Robbo Lab. The electrical circuits of the equipment get more complicated and even programmed, that is, the students make programmable electrical circuits. 3D printer comes in, 3D modeling is deeper understood, their own first 3D models are printed. As the student grows, the complexity of coding also grows: the block coding is replaced with textual, the students can directly program the Arduino microcontrollers. In addition, they study AppInventor, program the mobile devices, and write code to control the robot through their mobile application. The “Expert” kit now includes the electronic components — microcontrollers and breadboard, and knowledge of circuitry and electronics is sufficient to ensure that the student can build their own simple robot, and draw and print the body for their robot on their own. The second stage contains lots of tasks ranging from simple to complex level, and the teacher can arrange the lesson very flexibly and apply individual approach to each student. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The third stage is “creation”: under the guidance of the mentor, a robot is created. At this stage, the student is able to develop a robot schematic diagram, to make an expansion board for Arduino, and to choose various body options for the robot — wheeled/ caterpillar/ walking robot, and in the end they get a completed device. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Then the climbing to the fourth stage of training follows, and it is the top of the stairs. Now, the student is a maker. Anyone who has reached this stage is able to develop an idea and a scheme of their own device, purchase the necessary details, and produce and program their robot. At the fourth stage, the role of the teacher is reduced not to training, but rather mentoring and directing. The student can present all his developments at serious scientific and technical contests, which will be discussed below. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;At all levels, projecting and team work is encouraged — for projects or mini projects, students are teamed up, and everyone can try themselves in different roles: project manager, programmer, circuitry designer, 3D architect. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;How is the effectiveness of the training provided and maintained? First, the methodical complex was developed jointly with professionals and was highly appreciated. Secondly, the methodological guidelines take into account the special aspects of student’s age, many different activities are offered. It allows to build a lesson very flexibly — basic lessons are combined with a wide range of master classes, intensive courses, and camps. Methodical support and training of teachers is provided. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;How is the motivation of students maintained during the sufficiently long and continuous training, lasting from 5 to 15 years? First, the program is interesting. Secondly, it is an approbation of various careers, important for professional self-determination of students. And thirdly, at the end of each module, a final product appears (game, robot, 3D model, etc.) Fourthly, it is useful to test and apply the knowledge and skills in various competitions and contests. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Robbo company is the organizer of various international contests: Creative Programming in Scratch, Robbo club’s Annual Festival, nomination “Robbo Factory” as part of the International IT Planet Olympiad for the makers. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Besides, the skills mastered at working with ROBBO equipment can be applied at the international Robofinist Olympiad; WorldSkills and JuniorSkills. Thus, it can be concluded that the knowledge acquired by the students is not a dead weight, but is actively used both in practice and in various contests and olympiads. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

This article features modernizing the education, using the nowadays technologies, that is, creating a school class of engineering innovation (SCEI). Robbo company manufactures appropriate equipment for SCEI. SCEI is based on free software and hardware. “Free” means that all components of the equipment used are shipped with open source software, with open circuitry, component lists, and manufacturing instructions. To maximize the effectiveness of training, each student is provided with their own set of equipment. SCEI activity involves additive technologies, robotics, Internet of Things, 3D modeling and 3D prototyping, software for video and audio editing, computerized graphics, etc.&lt;br /&gt;

The activity approach assumes active involvement of students in the tasks being discussed. Productive learning means that each lesson results in a mini-project.&lt;br /&gt;

The hardware components we use are Arduino-based kits for teaching microelectronics and circuitry, 3D prototyping center — an interesting solution for the SCEI, three-in-one, it is a two-head 3D printer where the heads can be replaced by a laser or a milling cutter. In fact, it is a mini-Fablab that introduces all the popular ways of processing materials, and additive production — add what you need and cut off what you need not, laser engraving and milling. There are 3D printers, specially designed for schools, Robbo mini that can be supplied as DIY kits. They can be used to teach 3D printing. Digital laboratory for mastering the Internet of Things — this is actually a web server on batteries; with it, you can go anywhere in the world, for example, in a botanical garden or in a forest, sensors are inserted in it, to perform the measurements, it runs a website that allows to get access from anywhere in the world to this little box and perform laboratory work related to measurements from these sensors. There is also a mobile robot that allows you to learn the basics of working with actors and the basics of mobile robotics. This is a digital laboratory that allows you to learn the basics of microcontroller’s interaction with sensors, and to introduce such concepts as “smart home”, “Internet of Things”.&lt;br /&gt;

This article features modernizing the education, using the nowadays technologies, that is, creating a school class of engineering innovation (SCEI). Robbo company manufactures appropriate equipment for SCEI. SCEI is based on free software and hardware. “Free” means that all components of the equipment used are shipped with open source software, with open circuitry, component lists, and manufacturing instructions. To maximize the effectiveness of training, each student is provided with their own set of equipment. SCEI activity involves additive technologies, robotics, Internet of Things, 3D modeling and 3D prototyping, software for video and audio editing, computerized graphics, etc.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The software is an important component of SCEI equipment. We use free software based on the GNU/Linux operating system. This software allows to solve three main tasks:&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
* educational part of educational process management; &lt;br /&gt;
* tech creativity for students;  &lt;br /&gt;
* competitive programming.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
The majority of the world programming olympiads for children are run under the operating system GNU/Linux, therefore, to be among the winners, it is important to learn how to use this operating system.&lt;br /&gt;

Further about the formula: 5 means five used educational technologies — these are gamification, project technology, differentiated training, activity approach, and productive training. Gamification is primarily important at the pre-school level: methods for studying the basic concepts in a ludic form have been developed. Older children start with creative programming, developing their own computer games. The project activity is the creation of mini-projects, then intermediate projects, and then a graduation project. Differentiated learning takes into account that different students have different levels of understanding and different background, that’s why the tasks of different levels of complexity have been developed, so that each student can be given a task that promotes them to the next level. The activity approach assumes active involvement of students in the tasks being discussed. Productive learning means that each lesson results in a mini-project.&lt;br /&gt;
